Monarch's real product is a beautifully designed budgeting and net-worth tracker. It connects to banks via Plaid/MX, categorises spending, models goals across accounts, and gives couples a shared view of household finances.
The recurring-charges view is genuinely useful: it detects subscriptions from your transaction feed, groups them, and lets you mark ones you want to cancel. Where Monarch shines is depth of financial modelling. Investment tracking, custom category rules, and collaborative budgeting are all first-class.
The mobile apps are polished and the web app is one of the strongest in the category. The subscription-tracking layer, though, is table stakes. There is no overlap detection between similar tools, no refund-window alerts, no annual-vs-monthly arbitrage suggestions, no household split for shared subs, and no per-seat SaaS view.
If subscriptions are the reason you are looking, Monarch treats them as one of thirty features rather than the point. Monarch is the right pick if you want a full-blown budgeting platform and would accept a basic recurring-charges view along the way.
It is the wrong pick if subscriptions are the actual problem.

Frequently asked questions
Does Monarch replace Mint?
For many former Mint users, yes — it covers the same budgeting workflows with a modern UI, plus richer investment and household features.
Can Monarch cancel a subscription for me?
No. It surfaces recurring charges but you cancel through the vendor yourself.
How does it compare to LemSubs?
Monarch is a full budgeting app that happens to detect recurring charges. LemSubs is a dedicated tracker with overlap, arbitrage, refund-window and household features Monarch does not offer — and no bank connection.
